Get to know the place
A landscape that doesn't quite look real.
Zhangjiajie's great draw is Wulingyuan: a protected landscape of slender sandstone peaks, wooded ravines and streams. The views change with mist and light, so a flexible plan is more rewarding than a race between viewpoints.
There are two distinct bases to understand. Wulingyuan is convenient for the forest-park area; Zhangjiajie city is the base for Tianmen Mountain. The famous glass bridge belongs to Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, another separate attraction. Treat each as its own outing.

Places & experiences
Wulingyuan & Tianzi Mountain
武陵源 · 天子山Go for the sandstone-pillar panorama. Mix an upper-mountain viewpoint day with a valley walk rather than trying to cover every route.
Golden Whip Stream
金鞭溪A quieter way to appreciate the landscape from below. Paths may be wet or uneven; check the route against your mobility needs.
Tianmen Mountain
天门山A separate mountain near the city, with Tianmen Cave and cliffside paths. Check which ticket route you are buying and whether the cableway is operating.
Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon
张家界大峡谷The glass bridge is here, not inside Wulingyuan or on Tianmen Mountain. Add it as an optional extra day, not a rushed detour.
A glimpse before you go
See the landscape. Feel the scale.
A starting point, not a schedule
A slower first-time route
Settle into Wulingyuan
Arrive, check your park entry details and take a quiet evening near your accommodation.
The forest-park viewpoints
Build a full day around Yuanjiajie and Tianzi Mountain. Allow time for park transport, queues and weather.
A valley walk, then change bases
Walk a suitable stretch of Golden Whip Stream, then transfer to Zhangjiajie city for the next night.
Tianmen Mountain
Keep the day for the mountain and its booked route. If visibility is poor, an extra night gives you more flexibility.
