Get to know the place

Pandas, tea houses and one more bite.

Chengdu is often approached as a panda stop, but the city has plenty to offer between its headline outings. Give its tea houses, parks and neighbourhood restaurants time on the itinerary.

At a panda facility, the focus should be on observing animals and understanding conservation. Follow staff instructions and do not expect close contact or guaranteed activity from the animals.

Places & experiences

01

Chengdu Panda Base

成都大熊猫繁育研究基地

Check the research base's visitor information and current booking process. Animal activity varies with conditions and the individual.

02

Tea-house afternoons

茶馆

Set aside time to sit with a cup of tea in a park or neighbourhood tea house. Agree on any additional services before accepting them.

03

Sichuan food

川菜

Explore beyond hotpot: noodles, small dishes and neighbourhood kitchens. Ask about chilli, meat stock and allergens rather than relying on a menu photo.

A starting point, not a schedule

A slower first-time route

DAY 01

Neighbourhoods and tea

Ease into the city with a compact walk, a park and an unhurried tea-house stop.

DAY 02

Panda base outing

Plan around the base's visitor guidance, then keep the afternoon light.

DAY 03

Food and a museum

Choose one museum and a small food area, leaving the evening for a Sichuan dinner.
